Emil Åkerö
Emil has a long and diverse background rooted in culture and civil society. With a strong voice and a passion for storytelling, he has published four books and written for newspapers and magazines since his teens. His work often explores the intersections of digital transformation, community organizing, and cultural heritage.
One of Emil’s many creative highlights includes being photographed by Elisabeth Ohlson as Queen Kristina—an image later exhibited at the Swedish Army Museum and across Stockholm’s subway system. He also founded Linköping’s Rainbow Week, now known as Linköping Pride, and has developed innovative educational methods on topics like HIV prevention and identity work with youth.
Formally, Emil holds a Master’s degree in Visual Communication and Art History, as well as a Master’s in Cultural and Media Production. He is a licensed Stockholm tour guide, a member of the performing arts collective Kill Your Darlings, and a recognized expert on the portrayal of same-sex desire in history.
Emil describes himself not by title but by action: he develops, leads, educates, and writes—always with movement, exploration, and purpose at the core.
The Slut's Demise
"The Slut's Demise" is a journalistic book that delves into the reporting on the claim that today's youth are having less sex. Is it really true? Starting with the question of what happened to Samantha Jones from Sex and the City and sexual freedom at the beginning of the 2000s, Emil Åkerö investigates assertions, statistics, and facts surrounding what sex is and whether we truly are in a sexual downturn or not. It becomes a journey through perceptions of today's youth, societal development, and climate, but also the intimate and personal aspects, addressing questions about what sex really is and whether our society needs to broaden its understanding of what sex is and can be, as well as how consent is practiced. It also explores sex as a hobby, practice, and self-care, its political importance, and what happens when the private becomes depoliticized.
