The Council

“The Council”, Jakob’s fourth novel is a philosophical and existential thriller in the same spirit as the “Europa trilogy”.

"The Council" is about the recording of a reality TV series called "The Shipwrecked" on a deserted island in Southeast Asia. In the country where the film crew and participants are located, a local uprising quickly escalates into a larger conflict. A faction of the military occupies the neighboring island to where the recording is taking place, which has dire consequences.

The Council (original title: Örådet) is a philosophical and existential thriller in the same spirit as Sverker’s acclaimed Europe Trilogy. It explores the friction between starvation, confrontation, and the brutal reality of exclusion, all against the backdrop of televised entertainment—set in a world where danger becomes everyday life.

“The Council” is comparable to:
"The Music of Chance" by Paul Auster "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding
"Mao II" by Don DeLillo
