Aurora, the protector

Aurora, the Protector:

When the sun shines its brightest over the Baltic Sea, the water can gleam as blue as a cornflower’s petal and as clear as the purest glass.

Beneath the surface, the sea’s mysterious darkness hides underwater kingdoms in the deepest, most inaccessible places. For eons, creatures have lived there — beings whom only a handful of surface dwellers have ever seen and survived to tell the tale.

Newly arrived on the island of Gotland from Norra Morsjön in Fagersta, Kaj Lorén one day makes contact with one of these mysterious sea nymphs beneath the waves. From that moment, both of their lives change forever.

Reviews:

There is so much to focus on — a completeness unlike any other — and magical portrayals of these mythical beings, the clash with humanity, and the big question: are they good or evil? The scenes shifting between our world and the underwater kingdom, where we see how the sea and its people are affected by our human decisions, are spot on! But the best part of the book is still Aurora herself — her strength, instinct, and originality.

This is a thriller with high-level suspense. A real page-turner that’s impossible to put down. Unexpected twists pop up from time to time, making it even better. It also gives you something to think about regarding environmental issues. I have to say, I’m glad the swimming season is almost over — because now I’m not sure I’d dare go for a dip!

@stinas_boksida

Aurora, the Protector portrays the life and struggles of a mermaid in a truly unique and clever way.

It is raw, beautiful, and funny. And as always with Peter’s work, he delivers an amazing cast of characters. Deep mystique, darkness, beauty, reflection, and even humor are woven into this atmospheric depiction of sea nymphs and their encounters with surface dwellers. I love EVERYTHING about Aurora, the Protector!
