The Faster the Pace, the Harder the Crash

Sunscreen, souvlaki, and a Greek God

Emma Blom has a top job at an advertising agency, a dream apartment just a stone’s throw from Stureplan, and a ridiculously wealthy boyfriend—until her life suddenly falls apart.

Her sister, Marie, isn’t having an easy time either. One day, she shows up at Emma’s doorstep, fleeing small-town life, the family back home in their suburban house, and her unfaithful husband.

Two sisters, both bruised by life, decide to escape their bleak realities for a week-long vacation on the Greek island of Kalymnos. It’s a week that will give Marie strength—and Emma the courage to finally listen to the deepest voice of her heart.

“A charming mix of everyday relatability and that romantic escape from reality we all dream about from time to time.”

Green Olives, a henhouse, and a Greek Farm

Although Emma’s boyfriend is a Greek billionaire who loves her more than anything, and although she has a top job, she can’t shake the feeling that she’s in the wrong place in life. Back home in Borås, her sister Marie realizes it’s high time to end her failing marriage. Once the divorce papers are filed and the townhouse is sold, she takes a leave of absence and packs her bags.

Together, the sisters return to Greece to find themselves and a new direction in life. There, they are embraced by the hospitality of Kalymnos, the salty sea, the scent of wild herbs, and the taste of Mediterranean cuisine. But fate has bigger plans for them than they could ever have imagined — and it all begins with something as peculiar as a curdled sauce.

Review from 1bok2katter3kopparte: Green Olives, a Henhouse, and a Greek Farm by Maria Fallström gives us a deeper look into Emma Blom and her sister Marie. It’s classic feel-good reading for anyone who wants to hold on to that wonderful holiday feeling a little longer.

But this story also carries its fair share of darkness. Even though I sometimes chuckle, it’s also so moving that tears occasionally well up in my eyes.
