Edda Headshot

You’re never too old to try new things.

Edda feels lost and finds life rather dull since her husband Hans passed away a year ago. She spends most of her days with her poodle, Hendrix. Her grandson Isak is the captain of Fragrz, one of the country’s top esports teams in the popular game Counterforce. Isak faces a tough decision when one of his teammates — and one of his best friends — starts acting in a way that jeopardizes the entire team. During a family dinner at his mother Sofia’s house, Edda admits that life as an eighty-year-old widow feels quite empty.

That’s when Isak gets an idea. Couldn’t she fill part of that void with esports? At first, the idea is dismissed with laughter, but a seed is planted within Edda, who has promised herself to stay open — if not to everything, then at least to quite a lot. As long as it isn’t illegal, dangerous, or outrageously expensive. And to everyone’s surprise, Edda turns out to be a natural at the game. Edda_Headshot is born.

A major opportunity for Isak and Fragrz arises when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announces unexpected news: the next Olympics will include esports, featuring competitions in games such as Counterforce. The chance to represent Sweden will be decided in a tournament between the country’s top-ranked teams…

Edda Headshot is a fast-paced, humorous page-turner about forging your own path and defying stereotypes. It is the first book in the Edda Headshot series."Edda Headshot" is often compared to "A Man Called Ove" an "The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared", with the former being the main inspiration due to its combination of humor and darkness.

Reviews:

Westberg writes in a light yet sharp style, creating a cozy feeling throughout much of the text — almost consistently. […] I would compare it to watching a movie like Free Guy or Pixels, and it’s a very welcome kind of book.

With humor, seriousness, and a few homemade almond tarts, Peter Westberg has created the genre Gaming Feelgood — something definitely worthy of a solid four-star rating.

This is one of the most heartwarming books of the year. I love Edda and her attitude toward trying new things. Peter writes so skillfully and entertainingly that it’s impossible to put the book down until the very last page. I would love to have an Edda of my own in the family!

Edda Headshot is incredibly entertaining. I love Grandma Edda taking on Counterforce. […] Maybe I annoy the people around me when I read, but I just can’t stop laughing. […] The book isn’t just funny. The story is also full of warmth and heart. And let’s not forget the many relationships portrayed. How they are depicted is a big reason why I love this book so much. […] Everything blends together beautifully in this wonderful book: joy and sorrow, addiction and alienation — and it all works perfectly!

Edda Hotshot

Edda Headshot and the members of Fragrz are celebrating their tournament successes and the attention that comes with them, but not everything is smooth sailing. Edda, who has always prided herself on having nearly perfect vision, starts noticing that the world is becoming a bit blurrier. Her relationship with Kaj, the captain of rival team Grey Guns, deepens, and Edda reluctantly admits that love might be in the air — something that both frightens and intrigues her.

Isak receives an offer from an unexpected source. Soon after, life takes several turns, presenting him with new opportunities but also challenges he has never faced before.

Meanwhile, Andro’s father continues his old destructive patterns. As money runs short at home, Andro starts looking for alternative ways to make ends meet. At the same time, he struggles at school, trying to maintain a facade in front of those who actually care about him, too afraid to show any weakness. What will happen if Edda or one of the adults at school finds out just how close to chaos he really is?

Edda Hotshot is the second book in the Edda Headshot series — a fast-paced blend of humor and warmth mixed with suspense and darker undertones.

Reviews:

Edda Hotshot is a true page-turner — easy to read, exciting, and witty. The sharp, cheerfully vivid language from its predecessor remains intact.

Edda is my kind of lady — there’s such incredible drive in that woman, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I’ll be the same way when I reach her age. […] This sequel is just as good as the first one. […] It’s both thrilling and a little scary.

Lotta, bokbesatt.se

Peter Westberg has created a character you simply can’t help but love. Edda is a funny and warm-hearted lady — but also a sharp gamer. I really enjoy spending time with her and the rest of the gaming crew. There’s something special about the generational bond that develops — the friendship between the young and the old.
