Playa del Grödeby

Life in Grödeby, Part 1

Mona dreams of sun, sand, and cozy Greek evenings. But instead of a holiday in the Mediterranean, her husband Palle surprises her with an eight-week celebration of their new retirement—by revisiting the place where they once got engaged: Grödeby Camping. Goodbye beaches and exotic cocktails—hello staycation with a caravan, sudoku, and Crocs! When their nearest camping neighbor turns out to be a seductive, red-haired widow trying to sink her claws into Palle, Mona is quick to slip into the victim role, and soon she becomes someone she doesn’t want to be.

Palle and Mona have different dreams, and navigating a world of conflicts, misunderstandings, and breakfast conversations that never go deeper than the weather proves to be a love trial like no other. How do you reignite the spark after forty years together, when the daughter has flown the nest, the mortgage is paid off, and you suddenly have unlimited time together?

“An absolutely fantastic book about how life can turn out when it’s supposed to calm down.”

Christmas in Grödeby

When Palle and Mona leave their house for a cozy townhouse in the idyllic village of Grödeby, they envision a calm new chapter of their retirement. But the atmosphere shifts when they meet Olof, the neighborhood’s self-proclaimed handyman, who lives across the street. An invisible rivalry arises between Olof and Palle, as Palle also wants to fill his days by clearing the skating rink and shoveling snow for the neighbors. At the same time, he discovers more about himself and deepens a friendship at the village knitting café.

While Palle ponders how to help his friend Stavros save the Harbor Café, his wife Mona is busy preparing everything for Christmas. She dreams of twinkling lights, the scent of gingerbread, and cozy holiday cheer with their daughter Sofia. Mona has a clear idea of how things should be—just as they’ve always been. But Sofia has other plans. Then a snowstorm arrives, isolating the entire village and turning everything upside down.

Christmas in Grödeby is a heartwarming story showing that sometimes everything has to go wrong for us to find what’s right.

This is the second installment in the Life in Grödeby series.
